“…I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10 ESV)

I have never been a proponent of the “Health and Wealth” Gospel. The idea that the Christian life is one filled with riches, popularity, and physical well-being seems to contradict so much of what Christ originally said. If the Christian life was easy, why are we told that all those who live godly will suffer persecution? Why are we told to not be surprised when the world hates us? Why, as disciples, are we called to take up our cross which is classically seen as an instrument of death? Like I said… I don’t see the “H&W” Gospel.

With that said, Jesus did call all to come unto him to find rest. All the tired and weary find rest because His burden is light. Jesus does say that He came to give LIFE and give it MORE ABUNDANTLY.

While once dead in trespasses and sins, we find LIFE in Jesus. This LIFE comes to fullness in eternity… but we partake of the first fruits of it while on earth. The ABUNDANT LIFE is one filled with grace and mercy undeserved, depths of love unattainable, and joy unspeakable. All should characterize the LIFE of a follower of Jesus.

I fall short, but even in my failure I find more of a LIFE in Christ than those outside of His fold. Pain and suffering are sure to come, grace and love are sure to follow… thus, what I live is THE ABUNDANT LIFE.
