I woke up next to my wife this morning. Slowly, eyes widening I was able to gaze at that beautiful woman beside me. A quite echo of the Classic Country song “Good Morning Beautiful…” drifted through my mind. How could I be so blessed? Why am I the lucky guy?
Selfishly I wake her up. I get a silent grin which tells me she doesn’t mind. Placing my hand on her belly I feel our Baby Girl kick flooding my heart with a host of different emotions. In the solitude of my own mind I whisper a prayer of thankfulness to our God.
This was my Morning after spending time away from my wife. Though 3 days doesn’t seem like a long time, it felt like an eternity to me.
I am privileged to be Married to my best friend. Privileged to be able to have those conversations (both serious and not so) on a daily basis. Privileged to have loved and not lost. Privileged to share my life with someone so precious. And yet, live ignorant of these privileges more often than not.
What are the words to that song…?
“Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone…”
Though it is more along the lines of a Green tune, there is a funny little truth there as well.
“Absence makes the Heart grow fonder…”
I don’t know who said this, but they were trying to convince themselves that the absence was worth it. I would definitely pick Amber over Absence.

It has been 12 years, but I still remember. At that point in time my Hockey knowledge was due to my childhood friend - Ryan Ward. The countless days that we spent in his basement playing Computer games, Video games, and modified games of Dodge-ball are some of the cherished times in my memory. While, at that time, I had no knowledge of the player and finer points of the game of the NHL, Ryan was the Stat loving, Card collecting type who was more than happy to try to keep me up-to-date.
Some days I would have makeshift Goalie pads strapped on pretending to be Chris Osgood (more often Patrick Roy) trying to stop shots as Ryan “practiced.” Other days we would play through an entire Red Wings season on Super Nintendo (as time passed we switched to the Playstation) with Penalties turned on (which didn’t make sense to me at the time). No matter what we did… Ryan made sure that Hockey came in at some point.
So it is no surprise to me that I remember the fateful day when the powerful Defense-man for the Red Wings (along with two others) was involved in a terrible accident after helping win the Stanley Cup.
According to Ryan, this Defense-man was one of the toughest guys in Hockey. He was a Monster of a Russian who would rather run you over as opposed to skate around you. Vladimir Konstantinov was not a guy you wanted to have any part of, he was larger than life, and the equivalent to an ancient Gladiator – he was the Vladinator.
This is a sad video about that particular section of my childhood memory. Sobering to think how quickly things can change for those who appear to be invincible. One day on the top of his game and the next never the same.

Check out this Blog post concerning Missional Living…
With all the lingo bias aside… we all need to be Missionally Mingling with the Lost…
“I came that they may have life…”
Because before Him there was only Death and Misery, Pain and Suffering, Trial and Temptation, Sin and Failure…
“…and have it abundantly.”
For He is the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Well that never will Run Dry, the Way the Truth and the Life…
